Writing Erotic Romance in India.

I'm in Mumbai, India at the moment, a densely populated city which boasts both Bollywood and the biggest slum (Dharavi) in Asia. My book, Alphas' Prize, has just been released, so I'm excited and motivated to get on and finish the next book in the Sweet Water series that I'm currently working on.   There are a lot of distractions here, though, and just shopping for food can be a bit of a mission. I work better in the morning and most shops only open at 10 a.m. at the earliest, so I have a few free early hours to be creative in the country that brought us the Karma Sutra.
India is nothing if not full of contradictions. In a land where arranged marriages are the norm, people are romantic at heart. There is strict censorship of anything sexy on film, which is why you have a lot of singing and dancing in the Bollywood movies. As soon as things start heating up they launch into a routine, and all that pent up sexual energy is channelled into doing the funky chicken (okay, maybe not that dance but you get the idea). I don't think there's an equivalent reaction for written romance and I've been surprised to find that my books are freely available here in print, from FlipKart.  Of course there is also no censorship in downloading digital copies from Amazon or Siren Publishing either.
It can be a tad annoying when a movie has huge chunks missing and one sometimes wonders why they bothered showing certain films at all. Shoot 'em Up, for example, was totally unintelligible by the time it had been chopped for the TV. Having said that, if you have kids, it is very nice to know that they aren't going to see something inappropriate.  On that note...please don't leave any of my books laying around, accessible in your home!
Thanks
Dawn

  1. I just finished reading Alphas' Prize and must tell you I loved it. I am a voracious paranormal romance reader and the ending of this book just left me screaming for more. I cannot wait for Kil's story!

Since I do not really read contemporary romance I was so disappointed to see that you are writing another Sweetwater first...but I am sure that you have many fans who love those stories as well.

Just letting you know that you have a new WeresRus fan out there looking forward to a new book.

  3. Thank you for the above comments. I am 'chomping at the bit' to get on with Kil's story but I'm still working on the third book in my Sweet Water series. I hope to have that done by the end of this month (woohoo!), and then I'll be concentrating on WeresRus.
    Thanks again for the support.
    Sincerely
    Dawn Forrest
